Franklin County Council adopts a 20-hectare (50-acre) minimum subdivisional requirement in rural zoned areas, intended to limit 'suburban sprawl' and the loss of productive agricultural land to housing and lifestyle plots (see also 28 August 1990).

The New Zealand Viticultural Association holds its annual picnic at the Villa Maria winery in Kirkbride Road, Mangere. This is the first time for some years the event has been held outside Henderson, and is a tribute to the success of George Fistonich, who had established Villa Maria Wines at his family vineyard in 1961 (see also 25 February 2005).

The Papatoetoe Plunket Society East Tamaki sub-branch formally opens its new clinic building. It establishes another clinic in Otara in 1971. On 20 November 1972 the sub-branch becomes a full Plunket Society branch in its own right, known as the East Tamaki/Otara branch (see also 5 August 1982).

A Family Planning Association clinic is opened in Station Road, Otahuhu, South Auckland's first such clinic. An Otara clinic is also opened on 4 September 1972, and a Mangere clinic on 2 May 1974.

Manukau City Council approves a 13-acre subdivision proposal on the western edge of the Kohuora Crater despite hopes that the area will be developed for recreation. In 1975 futher subdivision takes place on the southern edge of the crater (see also February 1994).

The St Brigid's Catholic church building is moved from Peach Hill, near Ramarama, to Raventhorpe Hospital to serve as an interdenominational chapel (see also 25 October 1990). Franklin County Council takes over the administration of the former church cemetery at Peach Hill.

The Auckland Softball Association begins work on the development of its newly acquired home grounds in Norana Avenue, Mangere, one of the few privately owned parks in Manukau City. 'Softball Park', as it becomes known, is fully ready for use by the summer of 1977.
