The Waiuku Veterinary Club is formed. This is the second attempt in the town to form a co-operative veterinary association (see also April 1944).

A delegation from the Auckland Automobile Association's Franklin branch meets with Franklin County Council to request the paving of the Great South Road between Papakura and Mercer. According to one observer, the Franklin section of the Great South Road is the most dangerous part of the road for hundreds of miles (see also 18 June 1932).

Auckland's local bodies meet to discuss the boundaries of a proposed Auckland regional planning scheme. Pukekohe Borough Council and the Manukau and Franklin County Councils later express their opposition to being included in the scheme.

Manukau County Council accepts a tender for the formation of its portion of the Matingarahi to Kaiaua road. About the same time Franklin County Council is pushing its share of the coastal road along the Firth of Thames northward from Kaiaua. The gap is closed and the new road made passable towards the end of 1931, although it is 1936 before the entire length is metalled and an all-weather route formed (see also 21 February 1949).

The Auckland Acclimatisation Society continues its long-term programme to establish trout in Auckland streams with the release of 30,000 rainbow trout ova in the Mangatangi Stream. Further releases are made at Mangatangi and Mangatawhiri in 1935.

The newly formed Salvation Army Papakura corps holds the first service in its newly renovated chapel. The Salvationists have acquired the so-called Wallis Chapel, built on the corner of Wood Street and Great South Road during the 1870s by Caleb Wallis as a Church of Christ meeting place (see also 16 August 1986).

Papakura's new courthouse is opened. This replaces an old run-down cottage in use since the 1870s (see also May 1986).

The Auckland to Westfield railway deviation is opened to goods traffic. Passenger traffic on the line begins on 16 November 1930 when the new Auckland railway station comes into use.

The Waiuku Basketball Association is formed with teams from Waiuku, Aka Aka and Otaua. This is the first inter-club basketball association formed within South Auckland. By 1936 Waiuku is the centre of the Franklin Basketball Association, at which stage member clubs also include Te Toro, Glenbrook, Patumahoe, Pukekohe and Pukekohe East (see also June 1936).

About this time, Pegler's Building, on the corner of Great South Road and Station Road, Manurewa, is opened. The impressive two-storey building has seven shops on the ground floor, with reception rooms, offices and living accommodation above.

A golf club is formed at Clevedon. This at first establishes its links on the showgrounds, but moves to Mr E.P. Overy's property on North Road in August 1931.
